2010 URISA Salary Survey Now Open

URISA is conducting the 2010 Salary Survey for IT and GIS Professionals. Similar to the salary surveys from 2003 and 2007, the survey will focus on providing the most recent information related to salary by employer type, region and professional GIS experience.

This year’s survey will also provide information on how department sizes have changed, how organizations are utilizing the latest technology and levels of professional certification.

URISA's goal is to provide GIS and IT Professionals with insight on the current state of the job market to help professionals make more informed decisions regarding employment.

The URISA Alabama Chapter is preparing for our Annual Meeting to be held at 12:00 PM November 17 on location at The Davidson Center for Space Exploration in Conjunction with The Rocket City Geospatial Conference http://www.rocketcitygeospatial.com/ You are encouraged and invited to join us.

The chapter will be conducting elections and inducting new board members as well as chapter officers for 2011. The Rocket City Geospatial Conference is proud to announce that Mr. David DiBiase will be the keynote speaker at the 2010 Rocket City Geospatial Conference, Nov. 16-17, in Huntsville. Mr. DiBiase is the Director of the John A. Dutton e-Education Institute of The Pennsylvania State University within the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences. He manages the department's Certificate Program in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Master of GIS (MGIS) degree program, both of which are offered online through Penn State's World Campus.

He is a URISA Board Member; a GIS Certification Institute Board Member and Principal Investigator (PI) on the Geospatial Technology Competency Model for the Dept. of Labor and Co-PI for the National Geospatial Technology Center at Del Mar College, Corpus Christi, TX.

Mr. DiBiase is the editor of "The Geographic Information Science and Technology Body of Knowledge (GIS&T BoK)," a community-developed inventory of the knowledge and skills that define the GIS&T field.

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited* four-year college or university in Geometrics, Geographic

Information Systems, Geography, or a closely related field which must include completion of at least two

college-level courses in Geographic Information Systems

• Eighteen months of professional experience performing Geographic Information Systems activities

The new Alabama Chapter of URISA blog (http://urisa-al.blogspot.com/) has been connected to the chapter's LinkedIn group (http://www.linkedin.com/groups?gid=2195722) to allow easy posting from the board and committees. This will automate messages to the group and membership, provide an RSS feed, allow comments and feedback, provide public facing, and can be incorporated into other web parts. The setup is being tested and is awaiting discussion and approval of the Board.
